Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser treatments are currently the only way to remove tattoo ink from the skin. Depending on the color, size and age of your tattoo, it can take from six to 10 laser sessions to eliminate it.

In the case of multicolored tattoos, different lasers are needed to erase each hue. Lasers work on specific wavelengths, and each wavelength is attracted to (and used to eliminate) different colors.

While most patients see complete clearing eventually, it's important to know that there are risks, and the most common is loss of pigment in the treated area. This means that while the ink may be gone, you may be left with an area of lighter skin where the tattoo once was, but for most this is a small price to pay.

Although not as widely available and more expensive than traditional tattoo ink, there are a few innovative inks out there that are much easier to remove. They are still permanent, but because the pigments are encapsulated in tiny beads, they are easily dissolved and absorbed by the skin when zapped with laser treatments.
